Collegetown Cab — SMS Notifications & Consent
Program: Collegetown Cab sends automated text messages to passengers about trips they have booked with us.
Message types (transactional only): driver en route; driver arrived (with a pickup PIN); trip started; trip completed; and pickup-time updates. No marketing or promotional messages.
How we collect your number and consent: When you book a trip with Collegetown Cab — by phone, through your Medicaid transportation benefit (MAS), or online — you provide your mobile number and agree to receive text updates about that trip.
Message frequency: Varies by trip; typically 1–5 messages per scheduled trip.
Opt-out: Reply STOP at any time to stop messages. Reply HELP for help, or call 607-588-8888.
Cost: Message and data rates may apply.
Privacy: We do not sell or share your mobile number or consent with anyone for marketing. Your number is used only to send ride-related notifications.
How verbal consent is collected (phone bookings): Trips booked by phone with our live dispatcher — including trips arranged through your Medicaid transportation benefit (MAS) — use spoken consent. Before text notifications are enabled for any phone number, the dispatcher reads the following script, verbatim:
“Collegetown Cab can send you automated text messages about this ride — for example, when your driver is on the way, when your driver arrives, and if your pickup time changes. Message frequency varies, typically 1 to 5 messages per trip. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to stop these messages, or reply HELP for help. Would you like to receive these text updates at this phone number?”
If you answer yes, we record your consent (date, time, and phone number) on your booking record and only then enable ride notifications. If you answer no, your number is not enrolled and no texts are sent.
