Before calling Collegetown Cab at 607-588-8888 to set up a prospective interview, drivers must get a copy of their "Motor Vehicle Report", which can be obtained at the Tompkins County DMV, located at 301 Third Street, Ithaca NY, M - F 8:30 - 4:30. Driver don't need a signed physician's certificate as required on the City of Ithaca taxi driver's license application, however, potential driver's must fill out the first page of the City of Ithaca taxi driver's application, which can be downloaded in PDF form here (insert hyperlink) www.ithacataxi.biz/downloads/taxi_license_appl.pdf. Potential drivers must be able to pass the physical exam outlined in the application, and must of at least 24 years in age.
All Collegetown Cab taxicab driver's will undergo a background check conducted by the City of Ithaca Police Department. Police will verify the following eight items listed below, taken from the City of Ithaca taxi code:
A. Has a valid "Class E" New York State driver's license.
B. Is of sound mind and body, with good eyesight and not subject to any infirmity of mind or body which renders the applicant incapable or unfit to safely operate a taxicab for hire. Each applicant shall produce a physician's certificate dated not more than 30 days prior to the application certifying that the applicant is physically qualified to operate a motor vehicle.
C. Is clean in dress and person and is not addicted to either intoxicating liquor or to the use of drugs.
D. Shall not have been convicted of a felony involving violence, dishonesty, deceit or indecency nor any sexual offense.
E. Shall not have been convicted of driving with ability impaired or intoxicated due to alcohol or drugs while operating a taxicab.
F. Shall not have been convicted of leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in personal injury or death for five years from the date of the last conviction.
G. Shall not have been convicted, as a first offense, for any violation of driving while ability impaired or intoxicated due to alcohol or drugs for five years from the date of conviction.
H. Shall not have been convicted, as a second offense, for any violation of driving while ability impaired or intoxicated due to alcohol or drugs.
